Internet Safety

1. What article did you choose to read for your fourth article?
The article that I chose to read is "Fighting Internet Filth" by Mario Hipol

2. What were the most important things you learned from the readings?
I learned how to protect my family from harmful things the internet has to offer. Also the article gives tips on what you can do. Brother Hipol suggests parents to keep their computer out in the open, so no one will be tempted to look at bad things. Another suggestion that was made is to have younger children, or anyone create bookmarks or favorites for their favorite websites that they like to visit. Often times predators will purchase a website name that is close to a popularchild friendly site. By having the site already bookmarked, children won't be deveated to a bad site.

3.How will what you have read influence your actions as a parent and/or teacher of children and youth?
Hopefully one day I will be a parent, and in the future there will be even more bad things available to view. As a parent I can create bookmarks for websites, limit time spent on the internet, help my kids if they need to do research for a school project, create filters, look at the history of websites that have been viewed, and talk to them about what is out there, and how to protect themselves.
4.How can you use what you have learned from the reading to have a positive influence on family and friends?
With my family and friends, I can help them simply by telling them what I have learned from these articles. I have known people who have pornography addictions and they happen so easily because it is so accesible. By letting them know, they can be aware and hopefully stop those who will have problems with internet and or technology.
